Day 21 – L’autoroute, Beaune to Saumur

Our Ladoix-Serrigny residence at the back of the driveway
We had 500 kilometres to cover to get Saumur.  The quickest way by car was taking the autoroute.  It is tolled all the way.  I saved a few dollars by filling up the car at supermarket which tend have prices that are 20 to 30 cents cheaper than the oil company stations.

We called into Auxerre for lunch and had a  tasty meal in a little café which was reasonably full.  Despite the size of the city it was surprising to see so few people around  centreville but it was lunch-time after all and I guess every had gone home for their break.

We stretched our legs and had our lunch, then it was back on the autoroute to Saumur.

We had one more stop at an aire just out of Orleans and arrived an hour later than intended in Saumur.

When we arrived, we found that the door was locked and there were no keys to get into the apartment.  That meant a few frantic phone calls to our host.  Finally they got in touch with us and were around a few minutes later.  Fortunately there is nice square across from the apartment  where there are a number of restaurants and bars.  We had a pleasant drink while waiting to get into the apartment.
