Bikes in centreville - where are the people |
It was a
little warmer (by about a degree – around 10 degrees) when left our
apartment. We had not had the opportunity
to have a look around Radolfzell in the previous couple of days, so we found somewhere
to park the car and did some exploring. There was hardly a soul in the town
centre, although the café in which we had a coffee was almost full.
The
lakefront was very pretty although being so cold there was hardly a soul there
and of course the shops and cafés were mostly shut waiting for summer to
appear. There was an interesting
sculpture close to shore, reminiscent of the “Man in the Wind” sculpture on the
Wellington waterfront.
Zürich was
about 100 kilometres away, and was predicted to take about 2 hours on the back
roads which avoided the tolled motorway.
We avoided them because you had to organise a sticker and that seemed a
bit silly since we were only going to be there for a couple of days.
The trip
was lovely and the undulating country quickly became mountainous. It was very
pretty, and, of course, was very Swiss looking with the chalet type houses
dotted throughout the countryside. To add
to it, there were even a few cows in the fields.
Our friends,
Mary and William, live in Lachen which is about half an hour from Zürich. They have a lovely apartment which overlooks a
lake and apparently there are even air shows to be viewed from their window
every now again. In addition, there are cows
in a paddock in front of the apartment bringing the country to the town.
Mary and
William cooked a lovely meal for us and there was much catching up to be done by
Bev and Mary.
