Day 1:The journey, Not the destination matters....
It is the
journey not the destination!
It was a
bit frenetic leading up to my departure.
Two weekends ago my sisters and I were in Picton undertaking the last
rites on my deceased mother’s house as it had been sold and needed to be
cleared and cleaned in preparation for the new owners. It was a rather sad time for three of us as
we had spent a lot of time looking after our mother in that house.
Then I came
back to a busy last week at work. Having
brought a whole lot of things back from Picton last weekend was spent sorting
them out and finding a space for them.
Having done that, finally I had time to focus on all the things that one
needs to do in preparation for going away.
If only it was sufficient to pack one’s bags.
Today, I
had a full day to complete the packing, do the final wash (of course it decided
to rain just as I put the final load out).
The flat was cleaned and tidied, bag packed and finally it was almost
time to go to the airport.
At that
point a phone call came from Bev. A hiccup! She will have to stay in the
airport for the day that we were intending to look around Singapore. We had planned to try out some the nice food
and look at stuff we had not done. The
reason for this hiccup was that Bev’s passport was due to expire in about five
months and apparently it is not possible to stay, even for a night and with an
onward ticket, if it is that close to expiring - my fault - she had suggested renewing it (to enter Singapore it has to be over 6 months before it expires).
So now we have to figure out where to stay in one of what I suspect are
rather expensive transit hotels that are airside.
It will be interesting to see what the options are. Life does occasionally throw little
challenges at one!
So we will
enjoy the journey as that is why we travel and spending 26 hours in a hotel in
an airport can’t be all bad.
Stay tuned!
